Recipes can be submitted online at Dining.IllinoisState.edu from August 19 through September 6. Campus Dining’s culinary team will select finalists in two categories: main/side dish and sweet/desserts. The finalists’ recipes will be featured in both dining centers during Homecoming.

Finalists will be selected based on the uniqueness of the dish, its perceived appeal to the campus community, and its ability to be produced in large quantities. Students and dining center guests will vote for their favorite in each category, and the winners will receive a personalized token commemorating their win.

What is Homecoming Campus Decorating Contest?

It’s an opportunity for your office or department to promote Redbird pride and show Homecoming spirit! The tradition of decorating the campus for Homecoming dates back to 1927 and was renewed by the Illinois State University Alumni Association as a way to “Spread the Red” across campus.  All campus offices are eligible and encouraged to participate.

When should you decorate?

Decorations must be complete and ready for judging by 8 a.m. on Friday, September 27th. Contact will be made with entrants by Thursday, September 26th regarding the schedule for judging

How are entries judged?

Entries will be judged on several criteria that include the following:

• Use of the 2013 theme
• Use of school spirit
• Use of Illinois State University’s name and/or images
• Impact of the decorations all week, not just on day of  judging

The Alumni Association Homecoming Committee will visit all entries on Friday, September 27, 2013. The decision of the judges is final.We will allow 30 entries to be judged.  Hurry and get your application in to be part of the Campus Decorating Contest!

Do We Have to compete?

No, If you don’t wish to participate in the contest portion, but still wish to decorate, simply indicate this on the form below.  It’s the school spirit and Redbird pride that’s most important after all!

What do you win?

First and second place prizes will be awarded traveling trophies and $50 or $25 respectively to two types of entries:

• Building/multi-office entries
• Single office/individual workspace entries.

Additionally, entrants from offices of all sizes will be eligible for special decorating awards:

• Best newcomer to the contest
• Most original use of the Homecoming theme
• Most humorous
• Best use of Reggie

All participants, whether entering just for fun or competition, will be recognized on IllinoisStateHomecoming.com.

We will not have the “text to vote” option this year.

Come to the Normal Theater to see ISU Alumni great Laurie Metcalf in Uncle Buck.  All seats will be a special price of $5.00.

Uncle Buck (1989) as an idle, good-natured bachelor, Uncle Buck is the last person you would think of to watch the kids. However, during a family crisis, he is suddenly left in charge of his nephew and nieces. Unaccustomed to suburban life, fun-loving Uncle Buck soon charms his younger relatives Miles and Maizy with his hefty cooking and his new way of doing the laundry. His carefree style does not impress everyone though – especially his rebellious teenage niece, Tia, and his impatient girlfriend, Chanice. With a little bit of luck and a lot of love, Uncle Buck manages to surprise everyone in this heartwarming family comedy. (Rated PG; 100 minutes)

Registration

• 5K entry fee: $15 for children 13 and under, $25 for 14 and older. Beginning September 16, the entry fee will increase to $35 for all ages.
• 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk Entry Fee: $10 for all ages; runners, run/walkers, and walkers are welcome. There is no charge for small children in strollers.
• Online registration is available at Alumni.IllinoisState.edu/run until October 2 at 4:30 p.m. Once online registration closes, participants may register in person at the Alumni Center (1101 N. Main St.)
• Mail in registration is also being accepted. Please complete the  PDF registration (1 per person) and send it to ISU Alumni Relations Town and Gown 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk Campus Box 3100 Normal, IL 61790-3100
• Register in person at the Alumni Center Monday- Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
• Register the day of the race on Saturday, October 5 from 7 – 7:45 a.m. at the Student Fitness Center (347 S. University).

Packet Pick-Up

• Friday, October 4 from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. at the Alumni Center or Saturday, October 5 from 7:00 – 7:45 a.m. at the Student Fitness Center.

Prizes

• Prizes will be awarded to the overall 5K male and female winners, as well as the top three male and female finishers in each age division: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 & over, and overall male and female wheelchair racers

Shirts

• 5K participants who register by September 16th will receive a short sleeve dri-fit shirt and a race packet.
• All 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk participants will receive a cotton t-shirt.

Other Information

• The 5K run and the 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk will begin outside the Student Fitness Center and end on the Quad. Routes can be found at Map Downloads.
• 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk begins immediately after the 5K start.
• There will be two water stops during the 5K run and refreshments available afterwards for all run/walk participants, courtesy of the Town of Normal.
• The 5K will be chip timed, courtesy of It’s Race time, Inc.
• No pets please.
• Sorry, no refunds.
• Parking is available in the South University Street Parking Garage
